You wanna piece ‘o me? Usually when you hear those words, somebody is mad and ready to fight, right?
Not Fighting Words This Time: A Loving Process Unfolds
Crocheting is one of my super powers, (developed from 40+ years of putting hook to yarn). Each item created one stitch at a time. Yarn over, insert hook, pull up a loop, over and over is the process. Each project follows the specified sequence until a piece of string transforms into a beautiful thing.
Do these little kidders each have a pile of stuffed animals on their bed? Do they have a plethora of teddy bears, plushies, and Squishmallows tumbled about? Yep and yep! But each time I crochet them a toy, hat, scarf, or blankie, they’re getting a piece of me.
From the Last Stitch to the First Hug
My love and prayers and hopes and dreams for their lives and futures have absorbed into the very fibers of each item. I believe that love permeates into those kidders from the first hug. I admit, it’s highly possible that these projects are more for me than they are for them. They are growing up way too fast, (just as their parents did, go figure) and I get such joy from placing each of these items into their little arms and seeing them squeeze it tight.
Sure, each one may end up in the pile with the rest of their favorite squishies, but a piece of me is in that pile, and I’m really good with that.
Christmas 2024: Adeline, Zack, Josie, Gemma, and Silas with their polar bears. I have one for my grandson, Isaac too, and I’ll give it to him when he comes to visit during Spring Break.
Where did they Come From?
Several years ago I whipped up this little crochet pattern as a companion to its knit counterpart. The owner of the local yarn store where I worked, Loops in Tulsa, was preparing a window display of knit polar bears. Of course we “hookers” needed a crochet version!
A Sleuth of Bears is Born
Knit Collage Spun Cloud was my yarn of choice for this set of bears. For most of them I was able to get two bears per skein. (I did lose at “yarn chicken” on the light blue ones, though, thus the dark colored ears.) The crochet hook I used was a size N-9mm. I found the craft eyes and noses at Michael’s. For the scarves I used scrap yarn from my stash.
Fancy projects deserve fancy hooks! I love my Prym crochet hooks and I have both the small and large set. (Paid Link)
The little Polar Bear free crochet pattern which is great for Christmas is currently undergoing a revamp. Comment below and I’ll be happy to let you know when I publish the pattern. It’s really a quick project. I worked up the body of each in about an hour, and then it was about another hour to sew and stuff.
Celebration Time!
Guess what! If you’ve read this far, then you’re one of the first-ever readers of my first blog post on my new blog! Yay! Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you’ll come back again. I have lots of stuff to talk about! LOL!
God bless you, my Fabulous Friend!
